Joe Sarno has written and directed over 75 feature films in the sexploitation and soft-core subgenres as well as several films in the hard-core genre. Sarno's work is unique in offering unusual characters, taboo-probing situations and relationships, and psychologically compelling stories, as well as opportunities for his actors to contribute genuine performances. It might not be inappropriate to refer to 1973 through 1974 as Joe Sarno's shtick period.
